ABOUT THE LFGA

The Lacombe Fish and Game Association (LFGA) is a membership driven organization dedicated to promoting, through education and programs, the conservation and sustainable use of our fish and wildlife resources. We strive to protect and enhance the habitat these resources depend upon ensuring their enjoyment for current and future generations. Our Association is based in and focused on, the region surrounding Lacombe Alberta Canada, and is a proud affiliate member of the Alberta Fish and Game Association. (AFGA). 

LFGA will be hosting our Annual Horn measuring day Saturday December 18th at Burbank Hall from 11am till 3pm.
 
Trophy Competition Rules are outlined below.

ANNUAL TROPHY COMPETITION COVID 19 VERSION
Dec. 4, 2021

Who would have believed that Covid 19 would still be in the picture when we modified our trophy competition for 2020 last December? We will be hosting trophy measuring day in our traditional format December 18 from 11 AM to 3 PM at the Burbank Hall for fully vaccinated members only: credentials and masks are required and will be checked at the door.

For those members who are unable to be present that day or those not vaccinated we will be measuring by appointment from now until December 23 at the Powell residence.

People wishing to be present while the scoring is done should be prepared to mask up and respect social distancing. The scoring itself will be in the garage at the Powell residence. Those unable to wear a mask or follow any of the Alberta Public Health orders should simply wait in their vehicle while I do the measuring which, in most cases, will only last one- half hour. There is no charge for the service.

What needs to be done to get an animal scored is listed below.

1. Present the horns, antlers and/ or skulls in as clean and as dry as possible manner. Horns to be scored for provincial, national, B&C or P&Y entry required a 60-day drying period. We pre-measure for the club competition (under 60 days) in order to get the results by the first Saturday in February.
2. Call 403-782-3893 and ask for Dave Powell to make an appointment for measuring. Appointment times available will be from 10 AM to 7 PM on most days from the present until Dec. 23rd2021 .
3. We will still score horns for non-members.
4. Be on time for your appointment and deliver your horns, skulls, or antlers to 26212 TP Road 402 Lacombe County. Further directions as to location will be given at the time of the appointment.
5. Procedures may have to change without notice due to changes in the Alberta Health Orders in response to the pandemic.
​6. Awards night will be scheduled in early 2022 as soon as restrictions have been relaxed to allow for the event.

The East Stormwater Pond, located in the City of Lacombe’s Eastside Recreation Area just east of the Lacombe Police Station, has just completed a major upgrade project.  Throughout the summer, volunteers and vendors sought to greatly increase the success and accessibility of fishing this less well known urban pond.
 
Thanks to the City of Lacombe’s construction of the Eastside Recreation Dog Park located just east of the pond, a new 24 car parking lot has been added.  Anglers can utilize this parking area to have more convenient walk in access to the pond. 
 
The Alberta Conservation Association Conservation, Community and Education Grants funded a large portion of the major upgrades to the pond.  The project was managed and implemented by the LFGA, with additional funding requirements covered by the LFGA.
 
First, LFGA volunteers installed a new floating dock and five casting platforms.   The new docks and casting platforms will result in greater accessibility to the water body, increase chances to get to deeper water and allow for a more pleasant fishing experience.

The newly opened Boulder Lake Trout Pond, about 10 minutes west of Blackfalds off of Highway 597 and Range Road 275, is welcoming some new accessibility upgrades. Lacombe Fish and Game Association and Alberta Conservation Association volunteers completed the installation of a new floating dock and four casting platforms. 
 
These upgrades were funded thanks to the Alberta Conservation Association Conservation, Community and Education Grants.

Starting June 1, a Public Lands Camping Pass is required to random camp on public land along the Eastern Slopes of the Rocky Mountains from Grande Prairie to Waterton Lakes National Park.

Campers 18 years and older must buy a pass.

$20 per person for a 3-day pass
$30 per person for an annual pass
$3.25 system-processing fee plus GST per transaction. A one-time Wildlife Identification Number (WIN) purchase is required to access the system ($8, but with a $2 discount if purchased online).

Attn AFGA mule deer hunters, the Alberta Environment and Parks Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) surveillance program, is looking for volunteers to participate in a pilot program for the 2021-2022 season. This pilot project aims to instruct deer hunters on how to collect tissue samples for CWD testing.
