Annual Trophy Competition 2024

SAVE THE DATE: DECEMBER 21, 2024
We will be hosting trophy measuring day in our tradition format December 21st, 2024, from 11AM to 3PM at the Burbank Hall which Is located at the confluence of the Blindman and Red Deer Rivers. Animals presented during these hours will be scored on a first come first served basis. Snacks and some beverages will be served.

IMPORTANT CHANGE FOR 2024

All entries should include a field photo of the entrant and game harvested. Digital format is accepted or a print (4” by 6”) is also accepted. Digital format can be submitted via Facebook message, or emailed to [email protected].

For those members who are unable to be present that day we will be measuring by appointment from now until Dec 30,2024 at the Powell Residence. People wishing to be present while the scoring is done should be in good health. There is no charge for the service.

What needs to be done to get an animal scored by appointment is listed below.
  1. Present the horns, antlers and/ or skulls in as clean and dry as possible manner.  Horns to be scored for provincial, national, B&C or P&Y entry require a 60-day drying period.  We pre-measure for the club competition (under 60 days) in order to get the results by the first Saturday in February.
  2. Call 403-782-3893 and ask for Dave Powell to make an appointment for measuring. Appointment times available will be from 10 AM to 7 PM on most days from the present until Dec. 30, 2023.
  3. We will still score horns for non-members.
  4. Be on time for your appointment and deliver your horns, skulls or antlers to 26212 TP Road 402
  5. Awards night will be scheduled in 2025 as soon as the Club approves the date

Persons must be a member of the Lacombe club and must hold a membership card purchased during the period between January 1 to August 15, inclusive.
  1. Any member purchasing a membership after August 15 is NOT qualified to enter the competition. The membership must be dated & affiliated at AFGA prior to Sept 15 by the membership chairman.
  2. The Trophy Chairman is responsible in keeping all records of all antlers entered and declare the winner of the highest score in each category, re Club; Elk, Moose, Mule Deer {Typical & Non Typ] Whitetail Deer [Typ & Non Typ], Bear, Antelope, Cougar, Sheep, Master Archery, Master Youth Big Game and Canada Goose. Fish trophies awarded shall be Pike Jr. Pike, Rainbow Trout, Walleye, Perch, Goldeye and Lake Whitefish.
  3. The Trophy Chairman of the club shall ensure entrants are members and each entrant signs a Fair Chase Statement
  4. All entries should include a digital field photograph of the entrant and game taken.
  5. The Trophy Chairman of the Lacombe Club will notify the members TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO the date, the place and time of the final measuring. Notification shall be in writing or in the local Lacombe paper.  Measuring day shall be held prior to Interclub measuring day,
  6. Any antlers not measured by Boone & Crockett standards are ineligible for entry. (Drying period exempt).
  7. Any amendments to these rules can be brought forth at meetings of the club and approved.
  8. Antlers must be taken on a current licence for the trophy species being entered.
  9. Entries for club measuring are to be presented to officials not later than the advertised end of measuring on Trophy Measuring Day as set out in item 7 above.
  10. The trophy chairman and his designates will measure all trophy's entered.
  11. All Club measurements shall be final.
  12. Any head presented for Club competition must be at Club measuring day to be considered unless prior arrangements have been made. Offsite scoring must be done by a qualified scorer approved by the trophy chairman.
  13. All entries must be detached and clean of flesh for presentation for measuring.
  14. Entries are eligible to be entered in one category only.
  15. Non-typical Deer entries shall all have a minimum of eight (8) inches of abnormal points.  If in the event that no eligible entry is produced; the Nontypical award will be awarded to the highest scoring set of antlers with abnormal points.
  16. Any trophy entered in another AFGA affiliated club trophy competition is not eligible to be entered in the Lacombe Club Competition.
