LFGA Club Achievements
- LFGA owns two habitat areas of approximately 160 acres, and are the Habitat Stewards on an additional 480 acres of prime habitat.
- We operate two trout fisheries within the City of Lacombe. The annual stocking of about 2000 rainbow trout into each one helps to secure an excellent fishery for local youth.
- We have attended every annual Alberta Fish and Game Conference for at least 30 years. We bring your views to the Game managers of Alberta, and keep you up to date on wildlife & conservation related issues in the province.
- We own or lease three Fisheries Access Sites and the recreational property that goes with them, namely Wilson's Beach, Burbank Park, and Center Chain Lakes.
- We have contributed to several Habitat Trust Purchases, including Tide Creek on Pigeon Lake (320 acres), Stonehouse Properties (800 acres in total -- 160 in Trust Fund), Caine 1 and 3 properties, and a few others.
- We have an annual Wildlife Awards (Trophy) Competition, offered free to our members.
- We have been involved in Fisheries projects such as fish counts in the Blindman River and installed stream bank fencing between Bentley and Blackfalds.
- We sponsor and help operate a Youth Conservation Education Camp. Each year we sponsor several youth to attend camp and have members volunteer to instruct at those camps. We also have instructors who deliver the Canadian Fireamrs Safety Courses, helping you use firearms in a safe and responsible manner.
- We have organized many successful Youth Fishing Day events at the Len Thompson Trout Pond in Lacombe.
- We contributed funds and wrote articles for the Alberta Fish and Game History Book.
- The LFGA has had several members hold positions on the Provincial Executive over our long history. They include several Chairs: Environment, Hunting, Programs, Finance, Zone Directors as well as President.
- Our Association has received several of the Alberta Fish and Game trophies. The awards are displayed at Burbank Hall. They include awards for Fisheries Projects, Habitat Projects, Predator Control, Youth Activities, Conservation Education, Environment and Pollution Prevention.
- We encourage Youth Group Activities such as 4H Clubs, Scouts, and Jr. Forest Wardens through program support and sponsorship.
